Vietnam Legal Conference 2012
6-14 January 2012
Our Vietnam conference was another great success. The conference was held in two of Vietnam’s most colourful cities; Hoi-an and Hanoi.
In Hoi-an, Stephen Campbell presented a valuable summary of the first ten years of the Civil Liability Act. Dr Dominic Frawley AM intrigued us with a doctors perspective of the influence of social change and litigation on the doctor/patient relationship.
In between sessions we found time to explore this ancient trading port and to test delegates culinary skills at a Vietnamese cooking class.
We then moved to Vietnam’s capital Hanoi for the second part of the conference held at the magnificent Sofitel Metropol Hotel. Jeremy Gormly SC provided a chilling account of a miscarriage of justice in his presentation of The Mallard Enquiry. His Honour Judge Richard Cogswell SC gave a timely reminder of ethics and etiquette in the court room.
The many children attending the conference were enchanted with the water puppets and the bustle of the Hanoi markets. The conference was rounded off with an interesting analysis of the legal systems in Vietnam presented by lawyers working for international firms in Hanoi.
Following the success of the Vietnam conference we have decided to return to Indo-China in January 2013 (see future conferences – Cambodia).
