Penang Family Law Legal Conference
9-16 July 2016
In July 2016 we travelled to Penang, a fascinating fusion of the East and West, Penang embraces modernity while retaining its traditions and old world charm.
Our delegates, presenters and their families enjoyed a week of sightseeing, shopping and eating.
Our first ever family law conference was a huge success with presentations from Suzanne Christie, Norman O’Dowd, Suzanne Delbridge, Ray Whitten, Donna Ward, Peter Campton SC, Michael Kearney SC and local lawyer Honey Tan.
Whilst all the presentations were outstanding those who attended would agree that the highlights were a humbling presentation by Donna Ward on Hague Convention applications, a comprehensive review of Financial Agreements by Michael Kearney SC and a thought provoking insight on Sharia Law and how it impacts on non-Muslim spouses and children by local lawyer, Honey Tan.
On a more social note both the walking tour and food tour of George Town provided an opportunity to understand the culture of Penang and the various influences on their cuisine. The conference dinner at Seven Terraces – Kebaya Restaurant, yet again, provided an opportunity for delegates, speakers and their families to swap travel stories and network in a very informal environment.
Our sincere thanks go to our wonderful speakers, and to all of the participants who made our first family law conference in Penang both enjoyable and successful.
Papers from our Penang Conference are available on this website in Conference Papers.
